Genetics And Chiropractic Part1

Friday, May 27th, 2011

Evidence is on the side of wellness care offered by doctors of chiropractic for positively affecting behaviors and wellness, as well as reducing the cost of health care overall. Still, not much has been known about chiropractic adjustments’ effect on the chemistry of biological processes. And so, chiropractic care joined the field of genetics.

According to a study, it was found that chiropractic care can actually alter the basic processes in oxidative stress and DNA repair. What these findings do is show, in a scientific way, the beneficial effects that chiropractic patients report. Although more information is needed to solidify this assertion about chiropractic, the current information is on the side of chiropractic care.

Researchers measured serum thiol level in patients under both short-term and long-term chiropractic care, with the results being evaluated against those who were treated with non-chiropractic methods. Serum thiols, which are primary antioxidants, act as evaluators of human health status. These serum thiol tests act as a stand-in for the DNA enzyme activity repair, which is linked with aging issues. As shown in these studies, chiropractic care of two or more years could balance physiological states for patients in different conditions. Those who were symptom-free during chiropractic treatment had higher average serum thiol levels, while those who had an ongoing illness had lower levels. The patients who did not show any symptoms also demonstrated higher concentrations of serum thiol in comparison to the typical wellness values.

There are many factors that affect how the nervous system runs throughout a person’s life, may it be physical, emotional, or chemical stress. Experts stipulate that nerve function could affect oxidative stress and DNA repair on a cellular level. A dominant theory shows that the metabolically-generating free radicals that work as oxidative stress determine our way of aging and disease development. Oxidative stress keeps the DNA from recovering on its own, for it acts as a damaging agent on one’s DNA. DNA repair is one of the ways to fix any damage that is brought on by the environment.

Organic Food Part1

Saturday, May 14th, 2011

Like other smart shoppers, you’ve probably asked yourself if organic food is better for your health, or if the so-called advantages are just a bunch of hype.

First off, let’s examine the word organic in its applied sense. Organic farming refers to a system that relies on certain principles of animal, human, and environmental concerns. Organic farming forgoes the use of chemical products in growing food. This is just one aspect of a larger concern for doing less harm to the environment, human beings that consume the food, and wildlife. Land roughly the size of Italy is used for organic pursuits, and the global organic market is valued at over $27 billion.

The Meaning of Organic Labels
Foods with the organic label attest to the following: that it comes from a farm, and that it uses processors and importers approved by a recognized certification process. With processed foods, at least 95% of the agricultural ingredients have to be certified organic. The remaining 5% can consist of non-organic ingredients, but only in the case of approved contents.

To receive certification that their food is organic, food producers have follow these rules: Chemical fertilizers cannot be used, as they contain nitrous oxide. One has to employ natural methods like manure, as well as crop rotation, the act of alternating planted crops so that more natural nutrients are left behind. Instead of using pesticides, farmers can weed and plant different crops side-by-side so that they keep both crops’ pests under control. They can also use particular insects to take out more harmful ones.

Colorings, preservatives, and most other additives cannot be used. All animals need to have space and access to free range areas. The food these animals eat must also be organic. There are minimum slaughter ages and other humane considerations for animal treatment.

Hearth Health Part1

Sunday, May 1st, 2011

If your family has a history of heart disease, you may be worried that you will inherit it. It’s reasonable to feel concerned, as yearly there are nearly 1 million heart-linked deaths in America. You can rest assured, however, since genetic predisposition is just one factor that can determine whether or not you will develop heart disease. There are quite a few measures that can outweigh genetic predisposition, bringing long-term benefits to your heart health. With a few tips at hand, you will be on your way to promote and maintain a healthy heart.

Healthy Heart Tips
A sedentary lifestyle and poor diet are a dangerous combination, leading to all kinds of health problems, including coronary artery disease. Make lifestyle changes now, and you’ll keep heart trouble at bay. Here are a few manageable tips that can have a dramatic effect on your heart.
* In your diet, include lots of foods that are healthy for your heart (fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and foods with a lot of fiber).
* Incorporate seafood into your diet, making sure to eat fish at least twice per week.
* Be careful with the amount of trans and saturated fat you eat, and watch your cholesterol. At most, 30% of your daily caloric intake should come from fat. By reducing your consumption of animal fat, you can lower the saturated fat you take in. To cut back on trans fat, steer clear of hydrogenated vegetable oils.
* Reduce or sodium intake. Cutting back on salt will boost your heart health.
* Select reduced fat options of dairy products.
* Aim to get your nutrients from the actual foods that you eat, as opposed to merely seeking them in supplements. Vitamins and minerals in foods like beans and artichokes are very beneficial and tasty.
* If you’re sedentary, start exercising. To keep your heart strong, exercise is an essential must. Exercising helps keep tabs on cholesterol and blood pressure, and has a preventative role with diabetes. Benefits that will last you a lifetime ensue from working out for 30 minutes, five days a week. It is okay to exercise for 15 minutes in the morning and in the afternoon; you don’t have to fulfill your 30 minutes in one go. Since fad diet don’t deliver on their promises and don’t work over the long term, stay away from them if you’re overweight. They also put a strain on your heart and system.
* Try tai chi. It promotes a healthy heart, affects posture and balance, and is suitable for people of all ages and conditions.
* Quit smoking. This is a must for maintaining your heart’s health.
